Njord of Greece presents: Rhodes - from Myth to History

Introduction

Rhodes' history begins long ago in the mist of mythology. According to the myth, Zeus decided to apportion the islands of Greece to the other Gods.

The Sun God Helios selected Rhodes, while it emerged from the azure blue sea, flooded it with his eternal light and made it the most beautiful island.

Many of the legends we now call myths, have been rooted deep in superstition, conjured up to explain complex physical phenomena or just been used to conceal trade or other secrets.

There have been several versions of the story told through the ages. But, since legend is another word for fairytale, we have chosen and present to you our own condensed and combined version.

Our specialist itineraries are meticulously planned and rooted in knowledge of the destination and of the subject matter.

All maintain a cultural focus – architecture, archaeology, history, geology and gastronomy.

Our cultural tour - "Rhodes from Myth to History" -  is led by two expert lecturers – esteemed historians - Mr. Spyros Syropoulos and Mr. Kosta Panagos.

Warmest wishes and welcome,

The Njord Of Greece Team

Our Policies & Style

Recognizing the need for dedicated tours on Rhodes focusing on high quality and unique experiences, a team were formed of highly skilled and quality conscious individuals.

All our tours are led by an expert guide and are concerned with some aspect of culture or learning – the visual arts, music, history, and gastronomy.

Our tours are planned with immense care, with consideration being given to a host of factors such as opening hours, journey times and the availability of refreshments. The tours will therefore operate much as they are described in the programme.

However, sometimes situations arise such as closure of a building for restoration or a change of flight time which necessitate alterations to the itinerary. We would do our best to re plan the tour to minimise adverse impact of changes.

We spend a lot of time selecting restaurants, menus and wine. We aim for a high quality of food and ambience, and where sophisticated restaurants do not exist we seek an authentic experience with good local produce.

While most dinners and lunches are included in the price, one or more evenings/daytimes are left free on all our tours. Most clients welcome the opportunity for independence, but if you do not share this view the tour leader would be happy to help make arrangements.
Drinks are included with all meals. We provide wine and there is always water and the option of soft drinks or beer.
