Spyros Syropoulos is a Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the Department of Mediterranean Studies of the University of the Aegean. Vice Rector (Vice President) of International Relations, Student Affairs and Allumni of the University of the Aegean (2014- 2018).


  • Teaching Assistant at the Department of Classics and Ancient History of the University of Bristol (1993-1996).
  • Contract Lecturer at the Department of Philology of the University of Patras (1999-2001). 
  • Tutor at the program PAIDEIA (Center of Hellenic Studies PAIDEIA at the campus of the University of Connecticut (since 2003). 
  • Tutor of Ancient Greek Theater at the Greek Open University (since 2006).
  •  Author of six books and more than 50 articles in scientific journals.
  •  Founder and Editor of the electronic journal ELECTRYONE (http://www.electryone.gr) 2013-2019.
  •  Member of the DS of the Council of Monuments and Antiquities of the Dodecanese (branch of the National Council of Antiquities, Ministry of Culture).
  •  Member of the DS of the International Center of Writers and Translators of Rhodes (2003-2011, vice president from 2006 to 2011). 
  • Member of the DS of the Municipal Organization of Culture and Athletics of Rhodes (2011-2014).
  •  Honorary Member of the Voluntary Blood Donors Society and vice president since 2019. 
  • Participated by invitation at various international documentaries on Hellenistic Rhodes (BBC2, June 2006), the Colossus of Rhodes (the History Channel (2009-2010) and siege machines in Antiquity, on Rhodes (OTEHistory, 2015), Medieval Rhodes (TRT2 2019).
  •  Spyros Syropoulos has delivered over 50 presentations at international conferences and many presentations at schools and public events. 
  • Member of the Greek Institute of Cultural Diplomacy.
  •  Director of the MA course “Ancient Theater: Educational and Philological Approaches”, Department of Mediterranean Studies of the University of the Aegean.
  • General Secretary of Greece and the European University Association in Brussels. 
  • Expert for the Education Department, Council of Europe.
